What is Lead?

Lead is any person who might be interested in a business products and offerings and is open to communication. Lead (potential customer) might have filled a form through a  landing page or social media form to give their personal information to try a product for offer or trial.

When a marketing team reaches out to the lead then it doesn’t come out of the blue, he himself has given the information and is ready to talk about the product. This is a much safer way to not annoy a potential customer by randomly calling and explaining  about our offerings.

Once a lead is generated, we can then instruct them about our offerings and begin converting them into a customer. Without leads, our business will most assuredly fail.

What is lead generation?

Lead generation is a process by which we generate interest in the mind of a visitor (Lead) about the business offerings so as to get his contact details with the end goal of converting that visitor to customer.

This is most likely to be done by someone filling a form in a blog post, online content, job application, product free trial offer, etc.

Marketers rely on some channels to boost the leads to their business and drive more conversion rates:

  • SEO
  • Business listing
  • Enquiry form
  • Landing page
  • Paid ads
  • Social media

Why is lead generation needed?

Lead generation is a major target for a business to achieve because organic leads are much easier to convert into customers as they are genuinely interested in our products.

It is a strategy of inbound marketing where valuable and relevant content is created for the audience to engage. This created a trust between visitor and business, when leads are forwarded to the sales team they interact with the lead and nurture it to convert into a customer.

Businesses cannot grow without new customers so lead generation is the first thing a business sees to head their sales. Lead generation is focused on the question, “ What the customer needs?” When we answer this question by creating a highly interactive landing page, we can fill our funnel with lots of leads.

When someone is called a lead?

While generating leads, we have to be careful of whom are we targeting to fill out the form and contact us. Means, If we have a digital marketing agency, and we are finding clients such as businesses to build their website or do SEO.

We need relevant businesses to reach us who genuinely need the online space to grow and not some random person who neither runs a business nor is affiliated to any one of them.

We want most of our leads to be ‘qualified leads’. Qualified leads are the ones who have been generated by the marketing team, evaluated by the sales team and are fit to be a customer. Irrelevant leads just waste our money (if paid advertising is done) and our time (if they are organic leads).

How to generate leads?

Lead generation can be done in a number of ways, I will classify it in two broad categories:

♦ Organic- Leads generated by delivering valuable content, listing businesses, creating Google Business Profile (GBP), SEO, contact and enquiry forms. There is no money paid to these channels for collecting leads.

♦ Paid- These are done by Google Ads & Facebook Ads. We create a landing page for the ads and people visit those pages, fill out a form and a lead is generated. This includes paying for ads on Google to reach out to the target audience.

Let’s talk about these inbound (organic) & paid lead generation process in an actionable format:

  1. First, a visitor finds our business through a marketing channel like a website, blog or social media.
  2. Then, the visitor clicks on call to action (CTA). A CTA is an image, button or message that encourages the website visitors to take a certain action. The visitor clicks on our CTA and is directed to a landing page.
  3. This landing page is designed to capture our lead information in return for an offer.
  4. The visitor then fills out a form on the landing page in return for the offer.

Conclusion

In this blog, we discussed a brief detail on leads and the lead generation process. It isn’t just about accumulating a list of potential customers, it’s about building relationships and guiding prospects along their journey to becoming loyal customers.

By understanding the lead generation funnel, implementing effective strategies, and consistently analyzing our efforts, we can create a robust lead generation system that drives our business towards sustainable success in the ever-evolving digital landscape.
